At a night out in Formentera..
Sunbathing, drinking casual cocktails in a colorfoul mood:

Even super-mummy, khaki shorts situation, bikini Chiarra is still wearing that diamond riviera.. Girl that is khow it’s done.

jackie’s ring

This lady. her style made such an impression.
How could her wedding ring be any different?
Well, the story goes that Jackie and Jack Kennedy did not even have an engagement ring
when they announced their matrimony.
And there are actually no photos of the First Lady wearing it.

Well, eventually they found a ring in New York.
The bypass jewel was composed of a 2.84-carat emerald-cut emerald and a 2.88-carat emerald-cut diamond.
Baguette-cut diamonds and emeralds decorated the arms of the original design.
Jackie’s actions might suggest she thought the jewel was too flamboyant, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. When the First Lady began the now famous 1961 renovation of the White House with decorator Sister Parish, she also decided to revamp her ring. She took the piece back to Van Cleef & Arpels to actually make it fancier. The sleek baguettes in the original ring were replaced with more formal marquise shape diamonds. The gems appear sort of like a laurel wreath holding the two main stones. Round brilliant-cut diamonds cover the remaining front half of the band.

PINK mystery!

The story of the Hortensia Diamond is a spectacular one.
King Louis XIV was respsonsible for the addition of this pale orangey-pink diamond to the Crown Jewels of France.
The Hortensia was the foremost diamond listed in the inventory of the Crown Jewels of France, made in 1691.

The diamond, which weighs 20 carats  is pale orangey-pink, rather flat and rectangular in shape and is cut on five sides. In the 1791 inventory of the Crown Jewels it was valued at no more than 48,000 livres.

It takes its name from Hortense de Beauharnais, Queen of Holland, undoubtedly because she wore it. Hortense was the daughter of the Empress Josephine, the step-daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte and the mother of Napoleon III.

The Hortensia was among the jewels stolen from the Garde Meuble in September of 1792.
During the First Empire the Hortensia was mounted on the fastening of Napoleon’s epaulette braid. Later it was set in
the center of the headband of the great diamond-encrusted comb made by the Court Jeweler, Bapst, for Empress Eugénie in 1856.

In between, in 1830, the diamond was stolen again, on this occasion from the Ministry of the Marine, but it was quickly recovered.

When the French Crown Jewels were sold in 1887, the Hortensia was one of the items excluded, along with the Regent, because of their historic and artistic interest. The Sancy Diamond wouldn’t join them in the Louvre until a little less than a century later.
You could describe it as peach-coloured, but definitely on the pink side of peach.
It has good clarity but there’s quite a large scratch/crack on the pavilion.

diamond from cape town

And when we say diamond, we are refering to Kurt Pio’s talent!
This lovely artist is from Cape Town, South Afica.

..and not long ago he was inspired by the world of diamonds and decided to make an art series

inspired by their urban timelessness.

What we love in his images is the way he perceives the gem transforming it into something more than a luxurious ornament.

Kurt Pio was born in Cape Town in 1977. He completed his national diploma in Interior Design at Cape Peninsula University of Technology and had a brief stint in the industry. He pursued his painting career and currently works full time in his studio in Cape Town’s CBD.
