Andy Warhol was the leading figure artist of the pop art movement.
Zodiac sign:Leo _ Horoscope:Leo.
ranked the 434th celebrity in the world.
Creator of the “15 minutes of fame” expression.
He died in NewYork at the age of 58, in 1987.

Warhol became a collector of jewelry after his success.
He often wore pieces by Cartier or Harry Winston when he attended parties.  The Gems prints, featuring emeralds, rubies and diamonds, were a series Warhol created late in his life. Recently a German curator put one under an ultraviolet light.  The light showed a fluorescence, a glow.  This discovery was a pleasant surprise to those who know that Andy, himself, was always hiding his own glow, the jewelry, underneath his clothes.  “The Gems series has an autobiographical dimension (the secret love of feminine things, the sadness inherent in having to hide who he really was, despite his wealth and celebrity).

For certain women, work is a family affair.

Barbara, Irini and Myrto Danelian are the faces behind the Danelian Diamond Club brand, once created by their father, Christos Danelian. All three daughters talk about precious gems, their love for jewelry and the new ‘SOUVENIR’ collection.
How would you describe your relationship to jewelry?
Irini : Eternal friendship
Barbara : A love story!
Myrto : The birth of the idea, the creation process and the unavoidable separation of every piece of jewelry I have ever designed gives the relationshio a motherly side.
Is precious defined by the gem or the person who wears it?
Irini : Gems are already precious. It’s the act of giving, the memory you create, that make it priceless.
Myrto : The value of a jewel can be defined by it’s componants. It is emotion and aisthetics that makes it priceless.
Describe each of you as a precious gem. Myrto : I would say Irini is an Emerald and Barbara a Ruby because of her big heart! Irini : ‘Barbie’ is a pink diamond and Myrto a dynamic Emerald shape!
Was it always clear you would enter the family business? Yes, right after our studies each one took her place in the company.
Has the crisis been an important factor for the jewelry business? We’ ve become more creative and vigilant.

the taylor-burton diamond

You can’t have a list of famous diamonds and do not include the name of Elizabeth Taylor’s. Given to her by Richard Burton, this pear-shaped 69.42-carat diamond was originally owned by Harriet Ames, who felt it was too big to be worn in public. A problem Elizabeth’s character never had to  face in her life. It was sold at auction to Robert Kenmore, owner of Cartier, for $1,050,00 and has since become known as the first million-dollar diamond. Burton purchased it from Cartier for an undisclosed amount to give to Taylor for her 40th birthday. Taylor initially wore the diamond as a necklace, but the stone was set in a ring by the time it appeared in an episode of Lucille Ball’s Here’s Lucy. After Taylor and Burton’s divorce, Taylor auctioned the diamond off for $5 million and used the money to build a hospital in Botswana.
