Royally approved we are!

We are so happy to share with you the featured article and interview on Mohej.com
about our work and latest campaign. Thank you my darling Mohej!

Whether you’re looking to gift a one-of-a-kind piece, or simply to add some brilliance to your jewellery collection, we’ve found a brand that will elevate your look from ordinary to exquisite in a nanosecond.

From tailor-made shoes to monogrammed trunks, the number of luxury brands getting personal is on the rise. Fast fashion and trends are being eschewed in favour of anything that feels a little more special and has that personal touch, and what could be a better way to express this than with custom-made jewels?!

In a region where Audemars Piguet watches and piles of Cartier Love bracelets are considered uniform, the appeal of having something completely unique from a less identifiable brand is greater than ever. It offers us a reassuring sense of exclusivity, and this is exactly why we’re currently obsessed with Danelian Diamond Club.

Danelian’s collections span everything from fanciful and avant garde, to classic and contemporary, but what they also offer is a one -of-a-kind service where clients can collaborate with the jewellery house and create completely bespoke pieces. And who wouldn’t want to play designer with the most precious raw materials in the world?!

A recent social media post by mega influencer, Chiara Ferragni who wore one of Danelian’s ear cuffs while on holiday in Oman, means interest is peaking in the Middle East right now, too. But Chiara is just one of many famous faces to discover the jeweller, they also have the royal seal of approval and Victoria Secret model Ana Beatriz Barros stars in the new campaign.

MOJEH caught up with 39 year old Myrto Danelian, the Co-Owner and Creative Director, who works alongside her two sisters (Barbara and Irini) at Danelian – the Athens-based family business currently garnering global appeal.

How long does it take to order a bespoke piece?
Usually a maximum of three weeks, but it depends how complicated the design is.

How do clients usually contact you, and how does the process begin?
Most of our Middle East clients are referred through word of mouth and personal contacts. The process usually starts with a phone conversation so we can really understand their needs and personal preferences, and progresses from there.

How do you begin to understand and translate the client’s request?
First a client would share with us the occasion he or she wants to celebrate with the bespoke jewellery – it might be an engagement ring, a one of a kind wedding set, a pendant for a newborn, a birthday gift – finding a good reason to create a unique piece of jewellery is the easy part. It could just be just because you want to match it with a particular dress. Then we talk about the person that will own it, and her style, personality and taste. So if it is a surprise, we can make her as happy as possible.

The diamond brand is attracting attention around the world, including the Middle East

Can you explain the final steps — where the product is created and comes to life?
We send images of a 3D design that gives a very good idea of how the outcome will be. We discuss the final touches again, and then, voila! What is incredibly special and personal about Danelian Diamond Club is that we film the behind the scenes and the craftsmanship from the in-house workshops, and then we share it with the customers, so they can be a part of what is a beautiful and emotional process.

What kind of requests do you get from Middle Eastern customers?
We have customers that prefer timeless pieces with important stones, others that need pieces that are edgier, and those that require a more understated luxury. Our Middle East customers appreciate, and our mostly attracted to, fine diamonds which is what we specialise in.

Can you talk us through any special commissions?
Recently, we did a beautiful brooch for a member of Royal family. Unfortunately, I can’t say which. It was a crown embellished with pear shaped diamonds that you could wear with a special chain, or as a choker, too. We love doing jewellery that can be transformed, so the wearer can enjoy the piece in many different ways.

What do you love about women’s style in this region?
love their femininity, and how they always manage to be elegant and refined. The way they combine tradition and modernity, is for me, magical. I love travelling in the Middle East for work, pleasure and both together. I’ve always been attracted to the region. The culture, language and music have a mysterious and dynamic effect on me.

Why did you choose Ana Beatriz Barros to star in your latest campaign?
Ana is a hardworking professional, a tender mother, and a caring wife who never forgets her feminine side. She embodies the Danelian woman. Together women can achieve anything, which is something we both resonate with.

Finally, what inspires you, and the collections?
When you design jewellery you may never realise where the inspiration started from. One thing is for sure, though, the more you expose yourself to art, different cultures, nature and architecture, the more creative you become because your subconscious keeps anything that inspires it.

Men wearing serious carats

Yep. It is definitely a new modern trend full of confidence.
Men like jewellery, and love diamonds.  And we like that very much and design for them too!

If it isn’t Ronaldo wearing a 200k diamond ring, there goes Johnny Depp
in his round cut ring. Both classic pieces that inspire love of self  and a sense of achievement.Or a more eccentric styling like pop star singer Pharell Williams in a much valuable
diamond brooch and multiple layering black diamond necklaces.

This season’s Danelian collection went for a classic black diamond slick
tennis bracelet. It is the perfect match for a stylish watch and a suit or just jeans and sneakers. Either way, we love it.

At the Musée du Louvre

It’s been more than thirty years since the Crown Diamonds
were last put on display at the Musée du Louvre.

What an opportunity to look back at the history of the Hortensia and Regent diamonds.
With their mysterious names, these separate diamonds were mounted and set for a great number of kings, queens, emperors and empresses who had the pleasure of wearing them over the years. The Inventories of the Crown allow us to trace their eventful history.

The Hortensia, the pink diamond
Peach in colour, l’hortensia is known as the Pink five sided diamond and takes its name from the daughter of Joséphine de Beauharnais, Hortense de Beauharnais.
Each famous diamond has some kind of mystery attached to it, usually involving the location of its discovery, the identity of the discoverer, or a contested ownership. With the Hortensia diamond, the mystery lies in its name.

The Regent, the most beautiful diamond in the world

The colour of this diamond was declared from its discovery to be “of the first water”: its exceptional purity means the stone is entirely colourless. Its perfect size gives it an incredible power of dispersion, it’s illuminations flare with all the colours of the rainbow.
The diamond became part of the French Crown’s collections, taking the name of Millionaire, then French Regent and finally just Regent.

Also stolen from the Garde-Meuble in 1792, it was discovered under the beams of an attic just one year later.
Saved from sale in 1887, the Regent was valued at 12 million francs and was immediately sent to the Musée du Louvre.
